ECT or Edge Crush Test, is a high performance board developed as a cost savings alternative to Mullen in cases where the primary concern is centered on stacking strength.

One popular myth about ECT is that it contains high amounts of recycled OCC (Old Corrugated Containers) and is therefore not as reliable as Mullen. The truth is that both ECT and Mullen contain on average 73% OCC.

The real differences between ECT and Mullen is that Mullen's paper fibers are crossed as opposed to ECT paper fibers which are aligned. These aligned fibers give ECT a similar stacking strength to Mullen at a lighter basis weight, but at the cost of bursting strength.
